Real-Time Payments: What Actually Happens

Let’s break down a single payment transaction from the user’s point of view:

  1. You press “Pay Now.”

2. The system checks:

  • Do you have enough balance?
  • Is this merchant valid?
  • Are you using a blocked card?

3. It freezes the amount instantly.

4. Updates your balance.

5. Sends a confirmation to the merchant.

6. Pushes a success message back to you.

All of this usually happens in under 1 second.

Now imagine doing this millions of times per hour.
